At the end of Summer we hit the road for Utah. Every time we drive to Provo I think, "why have we never stopped at the Grand Canyon?" It's a pretty brutal drive to begin with so it's hard to willingly add 5 hours to it. This time we made an executive decision. Pull off and head to the south rim. It was such a beautiful day. 75 degrees never felt so good. We enjoyed the scenery which it seemed the squirrels were doing too and did every other pull out along the road. We admired the deer on the side of the road and the natural spring water to fill our bottles. Chloë really enjoyed using the "kid phone" to take pictures. I think she took over 100 on her own. We did a very mini hike to see some different views and take it all in. We passed so many people visiting that were speaking a variety of different languages. That's when I realized this place was pretty spectacular. The last stop before the gift shop to get our snow globe was The Watchtower. It was an amazing 360 view of the canyon and area around. It was painted with pretty drawings and 3 sets of spiral staircases. On our way out we saw a pull off with some pretty navajo jewelry. We stopped to look and ended up liking that look out the best! The cavern was so deep and it kinda gave me the willys. The girls and Gerrit enjoyed throwing rocks overboard and hearing them splash in the stream. Our night was spent in Kanab Utah. No motels were available so we opted for a single room cabin with 2 double beds. We pushed the beds together and made one giant bed for the whole family to sleep on. It was a fun experience not having a bathroom in our room. We got to use the community bathroom to brush our teeth, use the potty and shower. The kids were very unsure at first and then changed their minds. It was a great time!
In the morning we started the rest of our drive to Provo. We made sure to stop in Panguitch and take a picture in front of the house our good friend Pam grew up in. She was stoked on that text! Once we got to Provo we were able to inspect our house that we were selling. It was so fun to walk through and see it one last time. We took pictures in our bedrooms and Delilah even pretended to be a baby in her room That was a treat. We saw Monica and her kids outside so we grabbed them for a picture. That house was truly amazing. It was nice to be able to sell it and pay off some other debts. Goodbye 722 E 50 S! Scarlett and the boys were in Utah for Chris' Grandma's funeral. Although the circumstances weren't great it was nice to have them. Most days consisted of the kids playing outside in water and just playing together. Gerrit had the annual kickball tournament with his team the "Foul Balls" No trophy this year but maybe next. After the game I went out with the girls from the team. It was a fun night. One of the only things Chloë wants to do in Utah is eat at Brick Oven. We enjoyed an awesome lunch there. Janell made some more amazing pioneer dresses for our Pioneer Day festivities. The girls looked adorable as usual. We had so much fun doing all the activities. Gerrit was a trooper and waited in line for the wood sawing activity. It was like an hour long. It was another successful holiday. We still love it! After those festivities we headed to a Keller bday party and fireworks with the Bandleys. We tried the Matterhorn French Toast in the Provo food truck line up which is by the train tracks every thursday night. The food was good, but i'm still amazed that people spend that much money at food trucks.
One of the days I was able to go meet up with some Florida pals in Salt Lake. While I was out having the time of my life Gerrit and everyone else went to Provo Canyon. Natalie came into town for the weekend and we had a mini reunion. I was so happy to see my friends. We spent most of our time in the Nordstrom Mother's Lounge talking and laughing. After we ate at the Cheesecake Factory and did a little shopping. The day ended waaaaay to fast. It was great to see them all. We also got to have a BBQ at Mark and Sara's house. The Willard's were in town as well visiting Casey's parents. It was such a great evening with them all. My family is so fun and easy going. One of the days we tried out the new aquarium with everyone. It was pretty cool! Much bigger than what it was before. Adrian came and met us there with Oliver. He is soooo cute. Cutest baby award for sure. The Bean Museum on BYU campus also got a face lift. It was so nice we ended up going there 2 times! It's free and fun. Chloë worked really hard on a drawing of a moose and a bear. I think it turned out pretty amazing. I was happy I was in American Fork area so I could stop in and see Grandma and Papa. It was a beautiful Sunday.
